Swimming is a fantastic way to stay active because it combines cardiovascular exercise with full-body movement while placing relatively little impact through the joints. Despite this, swimmers often place their bodies under significant repetitive load, particularly through the shoulders, neck, and lower back.

Swimmer’s Shoulder
During freestyle, butterfly, and backstroke, the shoulder repeatedly moves overhead. Over time, this can irritate the muscles and tendons that help stabilise the joint.

Lower Back Pain
Certain strokes, particularly butterfly and breaststroke, require repeated spinal extension. If the hips and core are not contributing efficiently, the lower back may absorb more load than it should.

Aching across the lower back after swimming
Pain during kicking sets
Stiffness when getting out of the pool
